User-centric computing, in contrast to technology-centric computing, was front and center stage in the keynote hall at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2006 in the Santa Clara Convention Center this morning, as Patrick Grady - the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Rearden Commerce - described how his company has built the Holy Grail: a unified e-commerce platform that uses Web services, SOA, and AJAX.
"I'm trying to get you guys out of the weeds," Grady told the packed keynote hall. Meaning, he wanted software developers and engineers in the audience to understand the business context of Web 2.0 and AJAX and e-commerce.
This is 'The Perfect Calm,' said Grady" an incredibly virtuous circle of hardware and software, and infrastructure breakthroughs.

Grady ask the audience to imagine a world in which the user sits at the center of what he called a "meta-application," a composite far more than the sum of the individual parts. It is a vision that's been around for 20 years.
