SYS-CON Events announced today that Oracle joined AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East as "Gold Sponsor." The leading Web 2.0 and RIA event will take place on March 19-21 2007 in New York City. The AJAX evangelist and OpenAjax representative from Oracle will also present a session at the conference.
Oracle Donates AJAX Technology to Open Source Community
Oracle recently donated its next generation AJAX user interface technology to the open source community. Oracle also announced its plan to support open source scripting communities such as Groovy and Grails and the new JSR-223 specification to enable scripting languages such as Groovy, PHP and Grails to be used in Java Server-side Applications.
Oracle has integrated AJAX technology with Java Server Faces to provide rich, highly interactive user interfaces that run 100 percent within a browser with no downloads, Oracle says. These offerings are part of Oracle's ongoing strategy to simplify next-generation application development by providing developers with advanced tools and flexibility to use development platforms and components of their choice.
In addition to its many contributions to the Apache MyFaces project, Oracle is helping to build support for Java development by becoming the first independent software vendor to allocate resources and to participate in scripting communities like Grails, an open source Web application framework that leverages the Groovy scripting language for Java Web development. Grails is an open-source Java framework that comes with a simplified development environment that significantly increases the productivity of Web application development by eliminating the need to assemble deployment units and enabling developers to begin immediately. The goal of Groovy and Grails -- to attract a new category of developers to the Java platform -- is closely aligned with Oracle's efforts to expand the Java development community.
AJAX Tutorial on Oracle.com
A new tutorial on the Oracle Technology Network guides developers through the process of getting AJAX and their Java applications to work well together. The article is titled Enabling Data Exchange in AJAX Applications and is written by Andrei Cioroianu.
The author writes, “The goal of this article is to provide everything you need for implementing data exchange in AJAX applications, using the best techniques and the most recent APIs. The included sample code is organized in three packages: util, model, and feed. The util package contains classes that provide methods for XML parsing, Schema-based validation, XPath-based querying, DOM serialization and JSON encoding. The model package contains an example data model that can be initialized from an XML document and then converted to the JSON format. You’ll also find a Schema example (used for XML validation) in the model directory. The feed package has classes that simulate a data feed, whose information is retrieved every 5 seconds with AJAX in order to refresh a Web page. The article explains how to avoid a memory leak in the Web browser, by aborting unfinished AJAX requests and deleting the XMLHttpRequest objects after using them. “
